DevOps North East Christmas Party @ Sage UK

For the Christmas 2019 DevOps North East Meetup we will reflect on the year, look ahead, hear about Git for Ops folks, and we will round things off with a DevOps Christmas quiz.

Talk 1
A lightning talk from James Watson (DevOps North East co-organiser) who will go over the results of our membership survey and an analysis of the survey of what businesses in The North East are looking for; plus feedback from our members on what they would like to see from DevOps North East in the coming year. This will include looking back on what we've done over the previous year, and ideas for the future.

Talk 2
"GitOps - Demystifying Git For Ops Folk" with Brett Miller. Git is a topic that is constantly talked about as being essential for modern day {Insert IT Related Job Title Here} but it's also a topic that gets unnervingly complex quickly. Most peoples first foray into using git is utilising other people's code and they suddenly have to learn about forks, cloning, branches, remotes and pull requests.
Abstracting away the complexity of git and break out the basic commands and a simple workflow, Brett wants to enable people to become effective quickly by simply learning the basics. How you can use git locally, reaping the benefits git offers out of the box and how you can start using this within your teams to make work visible and encourage collaboration.
